European Union Support

Applications for applying the European Union as well as national forestry support are submitted to the Private Forest Centre.

European Union supports are forestry measures provided in the Estonian Rural Development Plan 2007–2013 financed from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (the EAFRD) and co-financed from the state budget of Estonia.

European Union forestry measures:
1.    Natura 2000 support for private forest land.

2.    Investment support for improving the economic value of forests.

3.    Investment support for restoration of damaged forest.

4.    Investment support for prevention of forest fires.
1. Natura 2000 support for private forest land (measure 2.7)

The objective of the support is to compensate the loss of profit incurred in forest management in Natura 2000 area for private forest owner. Private forest owners may apply for this support in case they own a forest land which is located in Natura 2000 area.

2. Investment support for improving the economic value of forests (measure 1.5.1)

Investment support can be applied by private forest owners and forestry associations.
Eligible activities/investments are as follows:

•    improvement cuttings in up to 30 years old forest stand

•    lopping of growing trees

•    reforestation (except after final felling)

•    purchase of forestry machinery, equipment and accessories

•    prevention of game damage and plant diseases

3. Restoration of damaged forest (measure 1.5.3)

Support can be applied by private forest owners and forestry associations for restoration forest areas inflicted by natural disasters or forest fires.

Eligible activities/investments are as follows:

•    forest regeneration (including preparation of soil, purchasing and planting of forest tree plants,  purchasing and usage of forestry accessories such as trunk collars, trunk tubes, tree crown protectors)
•    contribution to natural forest regeneration

•    maintenance of forest plantation
4. Prevention of forest fires (measure 1.5.3)

Support can be applied by private forest owners and forestry associations in counties of medium or large fire risk, meaning all counties except Jõgeva.

Eligible activities/investments are as follows:

•    marking of fire objects

•    maintenance of access ways to fire water points

•    establishment and maintenance of mineralised tracks and firebreaks

•    establishment and marking of smoking and camp fire areas
